Mini Team Free Will couldn’t believe that Dizzo had left some of her art equipment out and lying around.

They had a whole day unattended while the Dizzos were out earning their keep and Dean had homed in on the pile of pencils on the table beside them like a radar.

Deep in the sensible part of his mind, Sam knew Dizzo was very protective of her art stuff (she wasn’t that enamoured of paint on the carpet either), so as fun diversions went, this could be a risky one.  However, Dean was bored and had already macheted his way through Dizzo’s unfortunate spider plant – Sam was hoping that she wouldn’t notice the bald patch which he had artfully concealed under a pile of severed tendrils - so he guessed it was the lesser of two evils.

When Castiel had discovered three tiny little display easels inamongst all the other clutter in Dizzo’s case, Dean was transported into joy.

“I understand the purpose of art is to evoke an emotional reaction,” Castiel mused, scratching his halo in thought.

“That’s right,” Sam agreed with a nod; “a lot of artists like to draw subjects that move them or that will move their audience, they especially like things that project strength and beauty…”

As soon as those words left his lips, he felt himself wilt.

“Oh cool! Awesome idea Sammy!”

He heard the scrape of a matchbox being pushed across the tabletop until it was positioned in front of the three easels, and watched as Dean hopped up on top of it and struck an exaggerated pose.

“Strength and beauty,” Dean announced with a steely pout; “here I am!”

Sam couldn’t quite explain how someone with no mouth could manage to pull off a pout, steely or otherwise; he would simply have to file that question under the same set of mini-mysteries such as ‘how the hell was a car going to paint a picture?’

What he did know, however, was that suddenly he wasn’t just confronted with a faceful of posing mini-Dean, but that he was also expected to capture the spectacle in watercolour so that he could continue to be confronted with it for the rest of eternity.

Suddenly, he wished Dizzo was more inclined to tidy up after herself.

He was jolted out of his thoughts by a nudge on his arm, and turned to see Castiel, standing before him, paintbrush in hand.

“Is Dean indicating that he would like us to paint him?” the angel asked hesitantly.

“Yeah,” Sam sighed; “looks like it.”

They stood and watched as Dean flexed his biceps, and sashayed from side to side, winking at his car who was positively shuddering with delight.

“Which is my best side, Baby?”

“But I wanted to paint the spider plant,” Castiel sighed.

“Oh well,” Sam replied, placing a sheet of paper on the easel between himself and his posturing brother; “look on the bright side!”

Castiel gazed at Sam; “what bright side?”

Sam shrugged as he sharpened his pencil; “just be thankful his clothes are painted on!”
