I recently aged a year! The boys and I chose not to do too much to celebrate, but there was one thing I was determined to do for myself.

I was unprepared for the sheer enthusiasm my idea got. Incredibly unprepared.

That strange event aside, we soon got down to business with that ONE dreaded part of a pie that cannot be avoided…the dough. Flashbacks to the Ravioli Incident of 2014 (as we came to call it) were had.

The boys, kind (?) souls they are, tried to make me feel better by associating that horrifying failure with something else entirely. They failed.

They also tried misdirection. That succeeded, since by that point, the dough was resting in the fridge and out of my sight.

They sure can be industrious when they put their minds to it.

They even got me a snack out of the bargain! I got some very strange looks.

Thankfully, this time, the dough was neither a giant failure nor a pain in my…arms.

Fruit doesn't just go into a pie without some stuff being done to it. After they get chopped up, sugar is essential. The fun part was keeping Dean from drooling into the bowl.

After some sculpting, cutting, and a few straggles of avant-guarde dough art on top of the filling, everything was ready to go. Well, almost ready to go.

The best part about this recipe? Perfect size for anyone, and could even be a party snack/dessert! Bite-size is great size!

On the next edition of Cooking With The Minis…I have absolutely no idea :) That's half the fun.

Date: 2015-01-16 01:24 pm (UTC)I'm surprised mini-Dean didn't want to follow those little pies into the oven to make sure they cooked evenly. Got to say, though, they look scrumptious!

Date: 2015-01-16 06:48 pm (UTC)I had to keep him from going into the oven! Good lord, if I had known it was that easy to bag a Winchester, I'd have set a pie-trap for Dean years ago!

Date: 2015-01-16 06:51 pm (UTC)I KNOW!!! I thought to myself, "self, I really don't want a full-size pie. That's way too much to eat." Then I went hunting, and lo and behold, I found this recipe:
http://www.food.com/recipe/mini-apple-pies-so-easy-not-much-hassle-286704
I changed one or two things; i refrigerated the dough after I formed it, so the butter in it would stay cold, and I let the fruit and sugar sit for a while and make a syrup before I put it into the tin shells. I halved the recipe as well, but I still got eight pies instead of six. Go figure.

Date: 2015-01-16 08:31 pm (UTC)Thank you for the belated greeting! I feel a little like I was tooting my own horn, but there is actually a reason I said it here. The next entry will reveal the reason :)

Date: 2015-01-16 10:09 pm (UTC)It's amazingly easy! I encourage you to try it! The problem is stopping yourself from eating them all in one go!

…wait. I must rethink my incredulous refusal.
